History

Customs administration major was established in 1974 and began its formal recruitment since 1975;

In 1978, the school’s teaching institutions underwent readjustment by dividing the former department one into the new department one (English majors centered on foreign trade) and department four (Customs English major, and training courses for advanced officials).Moreover, in the same year, customs administration major was included into department four and started recruiting undergraduate students from high school graduates who took college entrance exam.

In 1983, University of International Business and Economics and the State Commodity Inspection Bureau made joint efforts to set up commodity inspection management major in customs administration department for college students;

In 1984, customs administration department established special training course on commodity inspection for advanced officials.

In 1985, customs administration department started to recruit graduates majored in customs administration;

In 1986, high school graduates succeeded in college entrance exam could get enrolled as undergraduate students in commodity inspection management.

In 1989, grounded on the establishment of commodity inspection management major in customs administration department, the major of import and export commodity inspection and appraisal specialization was set up and, in the same year, accepted for the first time, undergraduate students.

In 1994, the university established a management system consisting of school, college and department after the approval of the MOFTEC. Customs administration department followed under the direct control of the university, with “customs administration” major being its undergraduate major. Meanwhile, the undergraduate major of “Import and Export Commodity Inspection identification specialization” was included into the department of Import and Export Commodity Inspection identification specialization of the International Institute of Business management (the present School of International Business).

In 1996, customs management major enrolled students who studied this major for a second bachelor’s degree, and the College of Humanities and Sciences also added the major of public administration.

In 1997, the major of public administration started its enrollment.

In 1998, the major of import and export commodity inspection and appraisal specialization, renamed later as quality control, inspection and quarantine, was included as one of the majors of public administration. While the former customs administration major was defined as a major under the direction of public administration.

In 2001, the customs administration department and the department of Humanities merged to form the College of Humanities and Public Administration, coupled with the creation of “public administration major”, “public administration major (customs administration direction including second bachelor’s degree)” and undergraduate major of “public administration major (commodity inspection and quality management direction).

In 2002, the College of Humanities and Public Administration began to recruit overseas students;

In 2003, the public administration major in the School of Humanities and Public Administration changed its name into public administration (administration on foreign affairs), and the major of public administration was approved to authorize master's degree;

The year 2004 witnessed the abolition of the public administration major in the School of Humanities and Public Administration (Commodity Inspection & Quality Management);

In 2005, the college established practice base in Beijing Customs.

In 2006, University of International Business and Economics decided to set up School of Public Administration based on the former Public Administration Department and Customs Administration Department of the College of Humanities and Public Administration. The newly set-up School of Public Administration held control of the Customs Administration Department, the Department of Public Administration, Department of Public Economics, and among them, the Department of Public Economics involved a public administration major (foreign economic affairs management direction);

In 2006, "School of Public Administration Training Center" and "Yi He Customs Affairs Research Center" were set up. The school established internship base in Chinese Public Administration Society at county level, Beijing East Taihe Consulting Co. Ltd., Tianjin Baodi Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Shijiazhuang Customs, Anti-smuggling Bureau of Tangshan Customs, Tianjin Customs, and Yi He supply chain companies.

In 2007, the Institute of Public Administration added a new major for undergraduates, namely public service administration (cultural management), coupled with the abolition of public administration major (customs administration) (second Bachelor).

The year 2008 witnessed the establishment of "social stability and Crisis Management Research Center" and "Culture and Leisure Industry Research Center".

In 2010, the Institute of Public Administration was qualified for public administration degree authorization and held advanced seminar for in-service staff.

In 2011, University of International Business and Economics obtained qualification for MPA enrollment, and Customs MPA (Master of Public Administration) started to recruit students.

In 2013, the first annual meeting of the International Cultural Management was held.

2014, the major “public administration (customs administration)" changed its name as “customs administration".
