To all degree applicants:
The thesis defense for the first half of 2026 will begin shortly. Please note the following updates, especially regarding thesis submission.
I. Check the system regularly
Review results, defense schedules, and outcomes will be updated on the Graduate Integrated Management Information System. Stay tuned.
II. Defense and post-defense revisions
A. Defense schedule
Defenses are tentatively scheduled from mid-April to mid-May (exact dates set by each school).
Before the defense, you must submit:
Statement on the Use of AI Technologies(per university guidelines)
Doctoral Thesis Defense Advisor Approval Form (for doctoral students) – defense permitted only after advisor approval.
Double-anonymized review results must be received before defense.
B. Defense materials
After passing the double-anonymized review, the Degree Office will distribute doctoral defense materials.
C. Defense requirements
Defense must be in person, using a PPT submitted to the defense secretary beforehand.
The thesis must be sent to committee members in advance; review comments serve as key reference.
Doctoral students who received a “warning” in the double-anonymized review must present a revision statement to the committee.
D. Post-defense revisions
If the committee deems revisions necessary (though the thesis passes), you must complete the “post-defense revision” process and submit the Post-Defense Revision Feedback Form.
If the average defense score is below 70, or the committee requires major revisions, the thesis enters a special review process. An unfavorable review will be reported to the Degree Evaluation Subcommittee. For such cases, submit the Post-Defense Major Revision Evaluation Form.
III. Format compliance check
A format compliance check must be completed after the defense and before final submission (timing arranged by the school, generally within one week after defense).
The check is an important part of formal review. The passing standard is an error rate below 0.03%. Theses failing the check will be scrutinized by the Subcommittee.
IV. Degree Evaluation Subcommittee
Doctoral theses with any of the following must be accompanied by a detailed revision explanation to the Subcommittee:
Quality warning in double-anonymized review
Non-unanimous defense vote
Post-defense major revision
Second review by the Subcommittee
Theses that fail the post-defense major revision review will be reviewed separately by the Subcommittee.
V. Submission of final thesis
A. Printing and binding
Print and bind only after advisor approval.
B. Submission
Paper copy:Submit within one week after defense (or after post-defense revision review) to your school. Doctoral students: 3 copies. Ensure cover color, formatting, and signatures (advisor and student) comply with the Thesis Writing Guidelines. Non-compliant theses will not be accepted.
Electronic copy: Upload to the Graduate Integrated Management Information System. Upload function opens in May. Click “Modify” to upload. Deadline: May 30.
Format: PDF (full text, no anonymity, no color cover from printed version). Naming: StudentID_Name_Final (e.g., DE20220000001_William Grey_Final).
C. Archiving and random inspection
After degree conferral, the final electronic version will be submitted to the national platform and the library, and will be subject to MOE random inspections.
Ensure the uploaded file is the final, complete, correctly signed version—no errors, missing content, display issues, watermarks, encryption, etc. When registering degree information, the thesis title must exactly match the one on the uploaded final cover.
Please verify all materials to ensure fair review.
VI. Final similarity check
A final similarity check will be conducted in early June. Wrong file upload may cause failure.
Standards and consequences are detailed in Articles 9 and 10 of the university’s rules on academic misconduct detection.
VII. Key disciplinary review
Doctoral theses in Applied Economics that fall into any of the following categories will undergo a key review by the Economics Faculty Quality Supervision Panel in mid-June:
Quality warning in double-anonymized review
Non-unanimous defense vote
Major revisions after defense
Previous degree-withheld cases
Second review by the Subcommittee
If the panel recommends major revisions, degree conferral may be deferred by the University Degree Committee.
