The graduate degree application and assessment process for the second half of 2025 is about to commence. The relevant arrangements are notified as follows:
1. Degree Application Eligibility and Process:
(1) Have passed all required courses, paid all tuition fees, passed the thesis proposal review, completed the thesis writing, and obtained approval from the supervisor. Doctoral students must have passed the pre-defense.
(2) Submit the defense application through the system, and upload the electronic version of the thesis main text and full text.
(3) Pass the thesis similarity check and double-blind review.
(4) Collect defense materials, fill out the "Degree Application Form", and prepare the defense PPT.
(5) Participate in the thesis defense and obtain approval from the defense committee.
(6) After passing the defense, fill in personal degree information in the system and submit the final printed and electronic versions of the thesis.
(7) Receive the degree and graduation certificate.
2. Degree Application Schedule
(8) The school is expected to hold degree defenses in mid-November 2025, conducted offline.
(9) Following the requirements of the University Graduate School and International Education School, the school will review submitted applications and manage the submission of theses for corresponding checks.
(10) The thesis quality supervision group formed by the school will evaluate degree applications prior to formal submission. Applications failing this evaluation will not be accepted.
3. Student Online Application:
(11) From September 8 to September 19, students must log in to the Graduate Comprehensive Management Information System(http://202.204.172.201/graduate/index.do) to complete two steps: "Submit Defense Application" and "Submit Thesis Information", and upload the "Main Text" and "Full Text" of the thesis. Note: Applicants who previously submitted an online degree application but did not ultimately receive the degree due to failure in subsequent steps must resubmit their application this time. Ensure the defense year is "2025" and the defense semester is "Autumn/Fall", otherwise the application will be unsuccessful.
(12) Thesis submission must have prior supervisor approval. Applications submitted without supervisor consent will be considered invalid and will not be processed. Applicants must provide evidence of supervisor approval as required by the school.
(13) The electronic versions of the "Main Text" and "Full Text" uploaded must be the final version approved by the supervisor. Applicants must check their submissions. Incorrect submissions may lead to failure in the similarity check or double-blind review, or delay causing inability to proceed to subsequent stages.
4. Format and Naming:
(14) Applicants must upload two documents, both in PDF format (not encrypted, must have text processing capabilities; scanned PDFs are not acceptable), in the "Submit Thesis Information" section of the system.
(15) Name the files as "StudentID_Name_Content", e.g., "DE20230001_Jone_MainText", "DE20230001Jonei_FullText".
(16) The PDF named "Main Text" should contain only the main text, with all footnotes removed.
(17) The PDF named "Full Text" should be the complete thesis, with all author and supervisor information anonymized (replaced with XX).
(18) The thesis title entered in the system must exactly match the title on the uploaded thesis cover. It cannot be modified after school review of the defense application. Please check, as discrepancies may affect the double-blind review.
5. Similarity Check and Double-Blind Review Schedule
(19) By 15:00 on September 21, the school will complete the similarity checks for doctoral theses, update the "Preliminary/Repeat Similarity Check" and "Defense Qualification Review" results in the system, and report them to the Graduate School.
(20) In late September, based on the school's similarity check results, the Graduate School will arrange the double-blind review for all eligible doctoral theses. Doctoral double-blind review results are expected to be updated and announced periodically from mid to late October.
6. Thesis Defense Arrangements
During the double-blind review period and after receiving the double-blind review feedback, applicants should continue to refine and revise their thesis. Before the defense, the revised doctoral thesis must be submitted to the supervisor for review. Applicants may only participate in the defense after the supervisor signs "Agree" on the Doctoral Dissertation Defense Supervisor Assessment Form.
From October 15 to November 14, the Graduate School will organize a one-month concentrated presentation of doctoral theses prior to the defense. Doctoral applicants must submit one complete printed copy of their thesis to their school.
The thesis defense is tentatively scheduled for mid-November. The specific dates will be arranged by the school based on the return of the double-blind review results. Please pay close attention to notices from the school. Defenders must attend the defense in person, prepare and use a PPT presentation, and the defense will follow a supervisor recusal system.
After the defense, applicants must revise their thesis according to the feedback received during the defense. The final version of the thesis can only be submitted after it has been reviewed and approved by both the supervisor and the school.
7. Format Check and Final Thesis Submission
After the defense but before submitting the final thesis, applicants must pass a format compliance check. The final version (printed copy) need be submitted to the school's academic affairs officer, and the electronic version need be uploaded in the "Thesis Defense - Submit Thesis Information" section of the system. The deadline is November 28. The final thesis will undergo a final similarity check. Incorrect submissions may lead to check failure and non-approval for degree conferral this time. On the same day, submit 3 copies of the doctoral thesis to the School.
8. Final Similarity Check and Degree Conferral Deliberation
The school will convene the Degree Evaluation Sub-Committee to deliberate on degree conferral matters.
(21) In early December, the Graduate School will conduct the final similarity check on theses of candidates recommended for degree conferral by the Sub-Committee.
(22) In mid to late December, the University Degree Evaluation Committee will convene to deliberate on degree conferral matters.
