Eighty years ago, the cry under the leadership of Communist Party of China and raised by patriotic students to participate in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression so as to save our nation still lingers in our ears, and patriotism of students from UIBE will also be unceasingly inherited with the development of an era. This year happens to be the 80th anniversary of “the December 9th Movement” and the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression. In order to inherit and develop patriotism in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression and cultivate and implement core socialist values, large-scale thematic activities commemorating “the December 9th Movement” held by UIBE successively began in the middle of November, 2015, and the annual large-scale thematic chorus competition commemorating “the December 9th Movement” was also successfully held in lecture hall of the library of UIBE at 18:30 on December 8th, 2015. Students from UIBE recalled eventful years through singing songs and interpreted patriotism through expressing emotions. Hosted by UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League and organized by School of Public Administration Branch, UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League, this event was presented with the forms of patriotic songs MV screening and chorus performance, which have gained strong support from UIBE, each school of UIBE and every brother institution for higher learning.
The leaders and guests attending this chorus competition included Tao Haofei, Secretary of UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League, Deputy Secretary of every school branch of UIBE Committee of the Communist Party of China, teachers from UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League and Secretary of every school branch of UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League. This year is the 10th year that School of Public Administration branch of UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League has held large-scale thematic activities commemorating “the December 9th Movement”. During the decade, patriotism has been inherited and students in UIBE have been constantly surmounting themselves and blazing new trials in a pioneering spirit. The activities held in this year can be called being full of highlights.
Highlight One: The activities went out of UIBE for the first time and cooperation and interaction between universities were achieved
In order to enlarge the influence of large-scale thematic activities held by UIBE to commemorate “the December 9th Movement”, raise a cry among all the universities in the capital to inherit and develop patriotism in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression and cultivate and implement core socialist values, and practically create classic activities of UIBE to guide the thoughts, this year under strong support of UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League as well as elaborate planning and mobilization of School of Public Administration branch of UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League, large-scale thematic activities held by UIBE to commemorate “the December 9th Movement” went out of the University for the first time. This time UIBE united all the institutions for higher learning in Beijing to conduct cooperation and hold a competition of patriotic songs MV between them, which gained strong support and cooperation from such institutions for higher learning as Beihang University, Beijing Jiaotong University, People's Public Security University of China, China University of Mining and Technology and Beijing College of Finance and Commerce. We collected patriotic songs MV works of every university or college, and appraised and selected according to online voting and scoring by professional judges. The selected works were presented and awarded on site in lecture hall of the library of UIBE in the evening when the chorus competition was held. The representatives from the universities or colleges winning prizes all gathered in UIBE and felt the edification of patriotism of ”the December 9th Movement”, which strengthened the communication and contacts between different universities and colleges.

Highlight Two: MV competition themed as patriotic songs enriched the form and contents of activities
Light and shadow technology contributes to classic works and patriotism innovates the idea of activities. In order to enrich the forms and contents of large-scale thematic activities commemorating “the December 9th Movement”, guide young students to more deeply think of and understand patriotism in “the December 9th Movement” and actively cultivate and implement core socialist values, this time in the thematic activities commemorating “the December 9th Movement”, patriotic songs MV competition was specially adopted and it could be divided into two sections, namely collecting within UIBE and appraising and selecting outside UIBE. The collection of excellent works of patriotic songs MV within UIBE was grouped in school and every school produces and submits excellent works that can represent its creation level. The appraising and selecting work will be conducted in the form of online voting on Wechat platform and professional judges scoring. The work getting the highest score will be selected to attend the interscholastic MV competition and it will be presented and appraised together with the works attending the competition from other universities or colleges. All of this inspired the enthusiasm of young students to participate and capability to innovate.
Highlight Three: Vitalize grassroots organization of the Communist Youth League and show the innovation power of young students
The design of activities also combines the aim to vitalize grassroots organizations of Communist Youth League. In patriotic songs MV competition, MV creative scripts will be collected with every branch of Communist Youth League being a basic unit so as to give full play to the initiative and creativity of grassroots organizations of Communist Youth League as well as the spirit of innovation of young members of Communist Youth League. Every school appraised and selected the best MV script and focused on all the strengths to do the work of shooting, recording and film editing of MV, in the hope of creating an excellent work that integrates the wisdom and ideas and painstaking efforts from all sides.
Highlight Four: Competition system was innovated. Teams were formed by students from different schools. The competition was presented in the form of chorus. All of this manifested core socialist values.
Different from the mode of “individual combat”in the past, this year the system of chorus competition was innovated. This year, 12 schools of UIBE made the draw and were divided into 6 representative teams with two schools being one representative team. The comprehensive appraising and selecting work was conducted by integrating the scores of chorus competition and MV work competition. Young students were encouraged to make cooperation in competition and cultivate and implement harmonious and friendly core socialist values.
Each representative team made good preparation and was quite creative. Recitation, drama, dancing and chorus were combined, thus being extraordinarily spectacular and having strong stage appeal and an impressive effect of performance. In the program “You are such a person” jointly performed by students from School of Foreign Studies and School of International Studies, the performance was accompanied by piano, violin and violoncello, being quite moving and impressive. Combining the characteristics of their majors, the performers from these two schools affectionately recalled Premier Zhou Enlai. The students from School of Law and School of Statistics jointly performed “ Making an ingenious military move through crossing Chishui River for four times”. In this program, firstly the part of poetry reading attractively performed by four little children was quite eye-catching and then the performers wearing military uniform sang to show the passion and courage of the Red Army to cross dangerous gates. The students from UIBE Business School and School of Chinese Language and Literature jointly performed “Entering a new era”, in which powerful dialogue and multiple scene performance inspired all the audiences at present and fully showed the historical change of time. The students from School of Public Administration and School of International Relations jointly performed “Motherland won’t forget” to show their sincere respect to heroes fighting in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, and the combination of impassioned chorus and the drama themed as families involved in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression expressed the great aspiration to make contributions to motherland and the people. This impressive and moving performance got the highest single score in chorus competition. The students from School of International Trade and Economics School of Insurance and Economics performed “God shine and bless China” beginning with graceful a cappella choir, and excellent art of singing and flexible dancers jointly contributed some effort to the active atmosphere of live stage. At last, the representative team formed by UIBE School of Banking and Finance and School of Information Technology and Management performed “The flag waving in the breeze”, in which the chorus full of momentum had a strong expressive force against the impressive dancing, thus satisfactorily putting an end to the competition.

Highlight Five: Infuse international elements and publicize core socialist values
As a University aimed at training international talents, UIBE has always been paying much attention to international characteristics of its community activities. On the level of ideological and cultural values, in order to publicize core socialist values and be committed to improve international recognition, this time in the large-scale thematic chorus competition commemorating “the December 12th Movement”, a representative of overseas students of UIBE, Wang Fugui, who is from Cuba and speaks Chinese so well that he is called “A master in Chinese”, was specially invited to act as the host. The form of selecting undergraduate, graduate and overseas student to act as the hosts highlighted the international characteristics of UIBE. We all witnesses patriotic passion and impressive performance that students from UIBE showed on the stage, saw the thriving development history of a socialist new China and felt the appeal of core socialist values.
Highlight Six: New media platforms interact and enlarge the influence of activities
This time new media platform and technological approaches were actively adopted in the activities, which facilitated the organic interaction between online and offline platform and enlarged the attention and influence of activities. In the section of appraising and selecting within UIBE of patriotic songs MV competition, “成长惠园”, UIBE’s public account on Wechat platform and the Wechat platform “贸大公管团学”were adopted to show and vote, while in the section of appraising and selecting between universities and colleges, we actively contacted http://www.cuctv.com/ to arrange special space and pages for presenting and voting, which attracted a wide attention of media outside UIBE and the society.

Highlight Seven: Make professional appraisal to ensure the fairness of competition results
In order to ensure the objectivity, fairness and authority of competition results, this time in the large-scale thematic activities commemorating “the December 12th Movement”, we specially invited senior teachers in relevant fields to act as the judges. The people acting as the judges of patriotic songs MV competition included Wang Wenjie, an Associate Professor in the field of cultural cause management of UIBE, Su Zhuzi, a director in the program of “I want to attend the Spring Festival Gala” organized by CCTV, Teacher Han Xiaolun, a director in charge of special programs in Science and Education Channel of CCTV, Wang Kai, the writer and director in charge of the program of “ Witness” in Society and Law Channel of CCTV and Teacher Li Rongkang, the writer and director in charge of the program of “Overseas Chinese” of CCTV 4. The judges and teachers who have abundant professional practical experience also earnestly gave objective and pertinent opinions of appraisal. The four judges of this chorus competition were Zhao Yixuan, a young teacher, alyricist, the writer and director in charge of music drama from National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, Teacher Sun Xiaoying, who is in charge of the part of soprano in the chorus of China National Symphony Orchestra, Teacher Yang Liu, art director in the chorus formed by teaching and administrative staffs of UIBE and Teacher Feng Tianyou, the standing conductor in Youth Symphony Orchestra and Youth National Orchestra of Central Conservatory of Music. In the evening when the chorus competition was held, the judges and teachers also made an impressive comment.
Highlight Eight: Open up and originate to ensure ten years of inheritance and unceasing innovation
Since 2006, School of Public Administration branch of UIBE Committee of the Communist Youth League originated the idea to hold the annual large-scale thematic activities commemorating “the December 9th Movement” , and this year is the 10th year. In the decade, with a pioneering spirit we have kept pace with the times, inherited and innovated. Originating from a brand event within our school, it then became an event that students from every school of UIBE can actively participate in, and now it has become an event that students outside of UIBE can widely participate in. The event changed from a single chorus competition to a series of activities including such abundant forms as party history knowledge competition, thematic poster design, DIY creative works, flash actions and MV competition. The event gradually becomes matured and its details are gradually improved to ensure its quality and actual effects. It has become an audio and visual feast for students from UIBE to receive ideological and political education and ideological guidance. Its scope of participation and number of people allowed to participate in are gradually increasing. Every year the event topic is connected with current affairs, hot topics and situation policy education that year, ranging from carrying out and implementing the spirit proposed in the 17th National Congress of CPC and the 18th National Congress of CPC to review of thirty years’ course of Reform and Opening-up, to the thematic education on China Dream, to education on core socialist values, and so on. The event gradually infuses the spirit of the times to the spirit in “the December 9th Movement” and explores the spiritual connotation of the times.
The chorus competition commemorating the 80th anniversary of “the December 9th Movement” satisfactorily ended in the song of “The appointment made in the century” which publicized core socialist values. The songs sung with struggles and passion are the songs used to praise the youth of students from UIBE, and the ebullient and powerful melody is the expression of young students to show their love for the country. Core socialist values are what we expect to internalize, being simple and profound. They are also our creed for life, which are like the proverbs and contain a lot of ideas. Our love for the country has been unceasingly inherited for eighty years. The spirit presented in “the December 9th Movement” goes beyond time and space and guides the actions to be taken.
