The initiation ceremony for MPA freshmen and mentor meeting was hold by MPA Education Center of School of Public Administration(SPA) at VOX Coffee, on the fourth floor of Keyan Building at 3:00pm of Sept. 26. The following people attended the meeting: Dean Fan Libo, Lin Yongsen, Deputy Director of Customs Education Training Center, Li Jianwei, off-campus mentor representative and Deputy Minister of the Social Development Department, Development Research Center, the State Department, Chen Peiyong, Director of Social Management Division, Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, and Wang Xiaorong, Deputy Director of General Office of China Minmetals Corporation, Xu Wei, senior project manager of CITIC, and Zhang Renfeng, Chief of Training and Supervision Administration Division of State Administration of Civil Service, and faculty representatives. All 2015 MPA students participated in the event. The meeting was chaired by Wang Shuwen, Deputy Director of MPA Education Center.

Dean Fan Libo, on behalf of the School, expressed the welcome to all 2015 MPA students and delivered a speech. He introduced the development history, disciplinary development status, training mode and training goals of the MPA students of SPA and described the five-year plan of public school development, the vision of realizing internationalization.

       

Lin Yongsen, Deputy Director of Customs Education Training Center, as guest speakers, said UIBE began to develop and cultivate MPA students to work for customs system since 2011, and that UIBE has always maintained good cooperation and interaction with the General Administration of Customs. The new semester began, so he hoped cadres of the customs system could follow school rules, value their time in school, and take full use of the resources.

       

Li Jianwei is an off-campus mentor representative and Deputy Minister of the Social Development Department, Development Research Center, the State Department. He said he participated in the school work as Chairman of graduation debate for the administrative direction majors last year so that he was familiar with MPA of UIBE. He added that it was not easy to be a part-time student and MPA students were very motivated. He hoped all the students could make good use of mentors and learn from each other.

       

Then, Shi Chunwan and Zhu Yilin from Grade 2014, as representatives of MPA senior students, gave a speech and shared their views about the campus life as well as introduced some learning skills. Zheng Zhong and Wang Hui from Grade 2015, on behalf of freshman, gave a speech. They said that with abundant resources in UIBE, they would treasure this opportunity to acquire more expertise continuously and improve their overall quality.

The following on-campus and off-campus students made a brief self- introduction. At last, the students conducted free exchange with the present teachers on how to participate in the mentors’ R&D projects, fulfill Development Plan, improve practical abilities, etc. This activity ended in a relaxing atmosphere. It was believed that the freshmen would have a clearer and deeper understanding about their research directions and learning goals, which was helpful to encourage them to set up new goals.
