In order to help freshmen to enter a state of graduate professional learning and academic research as soon as possible, build a good communication platform for students and teachers, ensure the progress of mutual selection of the teachers and students, Grade 2015 School of Public Administration(SPA) Science Graduate Student Mentors Meeting was held in Room 631, Ningyuan Building, at 1:00pm on September 24. Professor Wang Shuwen, director SPA in charge of graduate students work, 25 mentor representatives of each major and all Grade 2015 Science graduate students attended the meeting. Professor Wang Shuwen chaired the meeting.



Firstly, Professor Wang Shuwen illustrated the significance of this mentor event, made a general introduction of the schedules of mutual selection of teachers and students, college professional setting and mentor resources, etc, and particularly emphasized on the selection of mentors and techniques through some typical examples. She pointed out that tutorial system, as an important form of postgraduate education pattern in China, was helpful to build a harmonious relationship between students and teachers, which was very important for graduate study and graduation, even influential on life choices. Therefore, choosing mentor at graduate student stage is a key part of the academic journey. She said unlike previous years, this year the School of Graduate put graduate student training process in advance, the purpose of which was to let students have a comprehensive understanding of mentors, so as to conduct the academic research as soon as possible. When it comes to how to choose the mentor, Professor Wang Shuwen, by combining with their own experience, suggested that the freshmen should combine their own interests with mentors’, make a plan of academy and future career, think twice and make a careful decision. She stressed that the different between graduate stage and undergraduate stage lied in improving research ability. At the graduate stage, it is not to accept knowledge negatively but create knowledge. The students should consider about their future direction and strengthen the communication with mentors, so as to fit research into the graduate student life and realize the conversion of role from undergraduate to graduate, which was the fundamental purpose of the meeting.

Next, Professor Song Yantao , Associate Professor ZhaiDongTang, Associate Professor, Wu Weifu, Professor Wu Chengzhong, Associate Professor Zhao Feng, respectively introduces the basic conditions of majors of Administrative Management, Customs Management, Public Economic Management, Cultural Industry Management, Education Economy and Management, and then made a specific introduction of subject construction, mentor construction, research results, professional advantages and employment prospects.

Finally, Grade 2015 Science Graduate Students interacted with the attending mentors about academic research, professional learning,etc. The meeting ended in a warm atmosphere.

This mentor event was an important part of our postgraduate freshmen entrance education. Many mentors and students actively participated in and paid a lot attention to the meeting, so purpose of the meeting was achieved. Meeting also deepened the understanding between mentors and freshmen, provided new graduate student with the guidance of professional choice, laid the foundation for graduate students to fit into the new learning research and life.
