Associate Professor Aihua Wu attended the Symposium of MPA Training Institutes in Beijing

On June 26, 2017, Associate Professor Aihua Wu of the School of Public Administration participated in the Symposium of MPA Training Institutes in Beijing hosted by the National MPA Education Committee Secretariat. Professor David S. Birdsell, President of the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) and Dean of the School of International Public Affairs of the University of New York at Baruch, attended the meeting as a special guest.

Twelve representatives of the MPA Training Institutes in Beijing including Renmin University of China, Tsinghua University, University of International Business and Economics, Chinese Academe of Government, Beijing Normal University, China Agricultural University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Capital University of Economics and Business, China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), Beijing City University presented at the meeting.

The symposium was divided into two phases. The theme of the first phase is Exchange of Experiences in Foreign Public Management Higher Education”. Professor David S.Birdsell introduced the operating experience and development trends of American higher education of public administration in term of the willingness to be civil servants, dynamic simulation of lectures, creation of internship opportunities, introduction of artificial intelligence to classroom teaching, development of undergraduate public management projects, development of international partnerships, promotion of online classes, forming of student;s awareness of service etc. The representatives exchanged views with Professor David S. Birdsell on issues relating to MPA education in the United States and NASAPAA certification. Professor David explained the major problems that each school needs to pay attention to in the process of NASAPA certification. Based on Associate Professor Aihua Wu’s expression that self-assessment report of the School has been completed and would be submitted in August this year, Professor David spoke highly of the our certification causes.

The second phase of the theme is the deliberation of major issues in domestic MPA education. Participants conducted in-depth discussions on teacher training, case bank building and the agenda setting for the 2017 President Conference. In response to the current status of MPA education and problems encountered in school operation, the representatives proposed valuable suggestions.

The enthusiastic discussion in the forum ensured a better exchanges and interactions with a good expectation.

Professor David S. Birdsell, Chairman of the American Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) and Dean of the School of International Public Affairs of the University of New York at Baruch Campus, mainly studies the application of media and information technology in politics, administration and Non-profit organizations and other fields. He currently serves as the Board of Directors of the New York Municipal Broadband Advisory Committee and one of member of the Voluntary Council on Governance, the Census Data Research Center Committee of New York, and the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission.
